Undergraduate Teacher Education Program
Special Education Licensure
The undergraduate program in special education at Greensboro College offers two types of initial licenses: the General Curriculum license and the Adapted Curriculum license. The General Curriculum license prepares individuals to teach students with mild and moderate disabilities in the public school setting. The Adapted Curriculum license prepares individuals to teach students with severe and profound disabilities served in a variety of settings along the continuum of services.
Candidates pursuing one or both of the licenses will have course work which will include topics such as laws and legal procedures (IDEA), diversity and exceptionality, cognitive and emotional development, collaboration with parents and professionals, skills for organization, planning, assessment, teaching strategies, professional growth, and ethical behavior.
Candidates desiring North Carolina licensure should be aware that graduation with licensure may require more than the minimum 124 semester hours.
