Undergraduate Teacher Education Program
Preschool Add-On Licensure
The Preschool Add-On Education Program at Greensboro College is located on campus in Proctor Hall, and is administratively housed within the Teacher Education Program. The Program is designed for teachers who hold an existing license in Elementary Education or Special Education. The Teacher Education Program sought to meet the needs of individuals with licensure in Elementary or Special Education who needed Preschool Add-On Licensure. After carefully examining the Preschool Add-On competencies developed by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, the Teacher Education Program found that the core courses of the B-K program would be appropriate for meeting the Preschool Add-On Competencies. Specific courses, however, depend on the candidates’ licensure and place of employment.
Greensboro College provides all candidates with a balanced and challenging program reflecting on the Conceptual Framework themes of liberating practice, valuing difference, and lifelong inquiry. The Birth through Kindergarten Education (B-K) and Preschool Add-On (P-K) Programs value child development, early childhood special education and early childhood education. The Preschool Add-On program represents an integrated and interdisciplinary study with emphasis upon the educational, affective, cognitive, and motor development of preschoolers and kindergarteners with and without disabilities.
