Undergraduate Teacher Education Program
Physical Education Licensure
Candidates who wish to teach physical education through the high school level will follow this program designed specifically to meet the teacher licensure requirements. Candidates interested in other physical education opportunities besides teacher licensure should read the Athletic Training and Sport and Exercise Studies sections.
The Physical Education Teacher Education (PETE) goals and objectives are stated in general, yet measurable terms. The standing objectives are addressed as part of the institutional assessment process and INTASC standard competency is demonstrated through the teaching and technology portfolios compiled by candidates. Goals and objectives were based on the following considerations:
- Philosophical considerations within the Division of Kinesiology and the Teacher Education Department.
- The PETE institutional standing objectives that are used in the institutional assessment process.
- Physical education state and national standards for beginning physical education teachers.
- Candidate, faculty, and alumni evaluations provided formally through surveys and informally through discussions in Kinesiology Division meetings, classes, and field visits.
Candidates desiring North Carolina licensure should be aware that graduation with licensure may require more than the minimum 124 semester hours.
