Licensure Plus M.Ed. Program

Elementary Licensure Plus Course Requirements
Special Education-General Licensure Plus Course Requirements

The first or licensure step of the Licensure Plus M.Ed. program represents a balance of graduate and undergraduate courses distributed among professional, specialty, and clinical studies. In teacher education programs, professional studies courses are the general core of shared courses taken by all candidates; specialty studies courses are the major area courses taken by candidates seeking licensure in a specific content area; and clinical studies involve field experiences in the public schools.

Candidates may pursue Standard Professional 1 licensure in Elementary Education by completing coursework at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Upon completion of licensure in Elementary Education (step 1), candidates may then apply to continue in the second step of the Plus portion of the program. With an additional 21 hours of graduate level work they may complete the M.Ed. in Elementary Education and acquire advanced licensure. See the Plus M.Ed. section for more information about advanced licensure.

Candidates may pursue Standard Professional 1 licensure in Special Education by completing coursework at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The license in Special Education is a General Curriculum license. (Learning Disabled and Behaviorally/Emotionally Disabled are now advanced licensure areas.) Upon completion of licensure in Special Education (step 1), candidates may then apply to continue in the second step of the Plus portion of the program. With an additional 24 hours of graduate level work they may complete the M.Ed. in either Learning Disabled or Behaviorally/Emotionally Disabled and acquire advanced licensure. See the Plus M.Ed. section for more information about advanced licensure.
