Professional preparation of teachers is an interdisciplinary process at Greensboro College. Faculty from five of six divisions and departments work together to prepare new teachers.
Education programs at Greensboro College are approved by the North Carolina State Board of Education and Department of Public Instruction for licensure of our graduates to teach at the early childhood, elementary, middle, or secondary levels.
Greensboro College has 14 program licensure areas: Birth through Kindergarten, Elementary (K-6) Middle Grades (6-9), English (9-12), Social Studies (9-12), Mathematics (9-12), Biology (9-12), Art (K-12), Music (K-12), Physical Education (K-12), Spanish (K-12), Special Education (K-12) general and adapted curriculum, Theatre (K-12), and Preschool Add-on licensure for elementary and special education license holders. The Teacher Education Program is nationally accredited by NCATE (National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education), and Greensboro College is accredited by the SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools). Greensboro College has received temporary authorization for Master’s of Education programs in elementary education and special education for teaching learning disabled, and behaviorally/emotionally disabled.
The education faculty have a reputation for expertise and innovation. Tenured faculty hold terminal degrees in their field and present regularly at national meetings and publish books and articles. Faculty are recognized, individually and collectively, for their teaching, research, and service to the Greensboro community.
Our graduates have good reputations, too. Many have been named "teacher of the year" and have achieved national board licensure status in their states and districts. Many serve in leadership roles in professional organizations and schools. Of our graduates, about two-thirds remain in North Carolina for their first year of teaching.
Our past gives us confidence that Greensboro College will continue a strong commitment to sound and innovative teacher preparation. |
